The Yindjibarndi People Community Trust can distribute funds as follows:

  • Emergency Allocation

A pool of money is available for emergency assistance to, or for, individual Community Members. A Sub-Committee will be established that will review applications sent in.

  • Enhancement of Community (Relief of Poverty)

This is available forCommunity Members who are struggling with Poverty. Distribution of these funds is being undertaken by a Third Party that will ensureprotection and privacy of the Yindjibarndi peoples personal data.

  • Funeral Allocation

Money is available to support Yindjibarndifamilies who have lost a family member.

In the wake of the 2022 Modernised Agreement with Rio Tinto, there is more funding available for Community Members. As the Trust has been established for charitable purposes, some of the needs the Trust can address include:

  • Relief of poverty, the needs arising from old age, and sickness or distress
  • Advancing Yindjibarndi People’s beliefs under Birdarra Law.
  • Promoting Aboriginal law and culture.
  • Other purposes beneficial to the Community.

However, because the Trust is Charitable, the deed limits what it can fund. The trust cannot fund projects, activities or items that are not for a charitable Purpose. This can include:

  • Sporting or recreational projects
  • Political Lobbying
  • Projects that convey a personal belief (unless for the relief of poverty)
  • government purpose
  • Purposes which are vague or have insufficient value for the Community members.
  • Alcohol, tobacco, gambling and similar products.
  • Hire of any type of vehicle.
  • Illegal or against public policy.
